Knowledge Panel
A knowledge panel is the boxed information shown on the right of Google results for entities like brands, people, and places. It is the most visible surface of the Knowledge Graph and a powerful trust signal.
Earning a knowledge panel is not a checkbox. It is the result of strong entity SEO—consistent signals across Wikipedia, Wikidata, your site, and the broader web.
What a knowledge panel shows
- A short description of the entity
- Key facts (founded, headquarters, founders, products)
- A logo and image
- Social profiles and official links
- Related entities and search suggestions
How to earn a knowledge panel
- Get a Wikipedia page. It is the single most powerful trigger. Without one, you can still get a panel, but it is much harder
- Get a Wikidata ID. Wikidata is the structured data backbone of the Knowledge Graph
- Use schema markup Organization, Person consistently across your site
- Be on authoritative databases with consistent information: Crunchbase, LinkedIn, official registries
- Earn brand mentions on third-party sites
- Build entity strength over time. Google looks at the whole web signal, not just your site
How to claim and edit your knowledge panel
- Sign in to Google Search Console
- Use the “Claim this knowledge panel” link if it appears
- Suggest edits to facts via the panel’s feedback link
- For verified entities, you can edit most fields directly
Common mistakes
- Expecting a panel without a Wikipedia page
- Inconsistent information across properties (different name, different description)
- Forgetting to claim the panel once it appears
